fundas on political fenda

IDP’s Umar Naseer proposes major changes to systems of administrative governance of the country.

On his campaign speech run on TVM’s ‘siyasee fenda’ at 11 am today Umar proposed that, in a government of his leadership, the administrative governance of the country will be localised to four major ‘local governments’. In such a government according to him resources, finance and decision making will be allocated and localised under the leadership of a Mayor who will be elected every 5 years.

I am trying to imagine the opportunities which might provide for the people in such a system.

1. Four Male like cities.
2. Four Ameeniyyas, four Majeedhiyaas and four Maldives Colleges of Higher Education.
3. Four national football teams which shall be out of four Diraagu Dhivehi Leagues.
4. Four breading grounds of high quality political leaders.

There it goes ‘I am lovin it’.

Then, you see, Umar. It looks like your business partner Gasim Ibrahim is more prepared for the job that ‘he already has four wives’ and there are at least 4 political parties, including yours, who want him to become their candidate in the presidential election.

why couldn't MTDC General Meeting happen..

It is talked about that MTDC’s general meeting did not happen because of a very bad upper hand by Buruma Gasim.

It seems Mr Gasim has bought shares amounting to millions of dollars at the initial public opening, all in the name of his employees, family and friends. He is to transfer those shares to his name from them through a systematic re-arrangement which he is trying to bring by installing his people within the board of directors.

The meeting was delayed to ensure that enough of his people could attend to the meeting, so that they could control the election results.

Gasim’s people who are in Male’ were absent because enough of them could not come from resorts and islands.

So says the rumours!

please define the term 'people's role and participation' in national development’

People's Majlis member, Riko Moosa Manik, is a typical Maldivian who does his job in the typical Maldvian style and he deals with and talks about typical Maldivian problems.

Recently, he targeted this question to the minister of gender...

"Why is that the Maldivian ladies 'in atolls' are expected and made responsible to clean their islands whilst Male' is cleaned by paid employees?"

One may want to think through this scenario before commenting on every other aspect of 'people's role and participation in national development'.

Shihab, thinks its a matter of attitude. We for certain had the attitude of public and voluntary service until, yesterday and my guess is we still have the attitude.

I remember, people used to understand what it meant to say 'people participation' quite easily. Not any more..!

Perhaps, we might have complicated it too much in the process of development. We need to redefine it, common to all, in simple terms common people can understand it, again.

business names – protecting them for the rich

I paid my business name;

US$ 10.00 per yeah on the World Wide Web

but

US$ 47.00 per yeah for the Maldives Government Business Registry.

That wasn’t enough either; I was told every time I may want extend the business name’s registry I will have re-register the name all over again.

Until recently business names in the Maldives were registered free of charge. Rich and poor were equal. It became intolerable to government when they found that young poor guys started taking business names to do their little give and takes. The rich just could not grab, whatever the name, when ever they wanted, unless the smaller guys sold it. I guess the poor selling something to the rich is indigestible.

Then, the government created a system in which the rich only can hold a business name for a long duration – there you are; even the names were made sure to become dynastical wealth of the filthy rich.

No wonder ‘world bank’ says, because of the disproportionate tax, Maldives is a business heaven for the rich; a hell for small beginners. Excuse me for the language in my adaptation.

Can someone teach them how domains are sold and bought on the internet?

teachers setting an example, or not?

Oh my god. What were our politicians thinking when we the people supported to bring democracy to the country?
  • Opposition thought that we meant the office for them – on a plate.
  • Members of People’s Majlis believed we meant it all for them, nothing for us.
  • Politicians in general thought as long as they can pocket the budget – they can keep the people silent.
  • Government thought all they had to do was distribute more islands for resorts and make high class happy.
  • Everyone else thought he/she knew all; no one else knows anything – nor do the rest have guts to ask for anything.

At last it became obvious that all at the top and their servants are settling down happy and are going to wait ‘the people’ forever for their rights.

Teachers then are a different breed. They spend whole their lives teaching facts, good morale and setting good examples. Consequently, they rose up for their rights.

All I see is teachers sticking to the facts, following the constitution just adopted and setting the good example for future generations to stand up for rights and democracy.

I salute you, Teachers!

bullets on the reef

“ in a military practice MNDF will fire live at a range between 1-2 kilometres within the vicinity of Gadhoo Kolu. Bullets are expected to run 1 – 2 meters above the sea level”

I called a friend to ask how many bullet live rounds (covers) one may find on the reef and beach of the Finolhu by Girifushi Training Centre.

“Twice as much as sea shells on the beach”; he guessed.

Is this anyway to defend a nation whose 90% security threats are environmental?

'maldivians only'

If you find a vacancy notice saying;

Job Vacancy
this means “We need quotas”,

Maldivians Only
this means “Don’t you apply if you don’t want get humiliated. We already have quotas. We are only formalising” and if you see..

Maldivians Only – No kidding – This time, We promise .
this means “Okay fine. You can Hope”.

Will you ever see the last one on a 'Job Vacancy Notice'; I mean in the Maldives?
